The Role of Spirituality in Crime Prevention with an Emphasis on the Teachings of the Holy Quran (Case Study: Students of Islamic Azad University, Elam Branch)

Abstract
One of the factors that plays a significant role in the prevention or reduction of crime and social deviance is religiosity and faith in God. When an individual is beyond the observation of others, behavioral control is exercised through faith, as God is regarded as the ever-present witness to human actions across all times and places. The present study aims to examine the relationship between spirituality and crime prevention in society. The statistical population of the study consisted of 440 female students enrolled at Islamic Azad University, Elam Branch, during the first semester of the 2024-2025 academic year. The sample size was determined using the Krejcie and Morgan table. The study employed a descriptive-survey research design. In order to measure and rank the indicators of spirituality and determine the extent of their impact on crime prevention, a researcher-made questionnaire containing 25 items was used. The findings revealed that among the indicators related to the dimensions of religiosity, developed with an emphasis on the teachings of the Holy Quran, 9 factors were identified, which together explained 70.268 percent of the total factor loading. The results of factor rotation showed that the first to third factors were, respectively, awareness of the Hereafter, the Divine Court of Justice, and the constant presence of God; promotion of enjoining good in society and inviting others to righteousness; and reflection on the Quran and attention to verses describing the punishment of sin and the fate of sinners. These factors ranked first to third, explaining 11.787, 8.662, and 8.399 of the total factors loading, respectively.The general results indicated that spirituality has a significant impact on crime prevention, with a high coefficient of 0.64.
